Helsinki vs Stockholm

  • I would say that the public transport situation (for me at least) is more chaotic in Helsinki than it is in Stockholm. Stockholm’s metro system is more expansive than Helsinki’s, whereas Helsinki is more bus and tram-centric. I still have yet to be familiar with the tram systems since I live in Espoo, but I feel more confident using Stockholm’s public transport than Helsinki’s.
  • Most stuff in Helsinki center is within walking distance so a lot of times public transport is optional
  • Even all signs are in both Finnish and Swedish.
  • living in Helsinki is so much easier and cheaper than stockholm.
  • In Helsinki it’s easier to access “real” nature and its peace and quiet, not just parks.
  • Lots more and better public saunas, some with access to swimming in the sea.
  • Some of the architecture is more slavic/Russian influenced. Helsinki doesn’t really have an old town like Stockholm, and the “old” parts of the city are mostly from late 19th/early 20th century.
